So I'm taking the weekend to relax as I hope most of you are doing as well. I've got plans for cookouts and movies and some serious Halo 2 smackdown on the teenage nephews and their friends and maybe even some time with the kid. My daughter and I need more bonding time even though she's 15 and a half (and CAN DRIVE NOW). She probably has the weekend booked with her friends and will find 15 minutes for me sometime Sunday evening. I've promised myself that I'll unplug completely and other than doing a review for a friend on an article he is writing on AOP, I will be unplugged. No math, no crypto, no math, no linguistics, no .Net, no GPI development, no math, no Hoare's Calculus, no EC (did I mention no math?).
I'm hoping to catch a ball game, too. Gerry invited me to a Brewer's game last Monday and I had to bag it because the kid needed to finish a history report on the Tet Offensive. Houston's in town this weekend, so this is a chance for the Brew-Crew to inch over the 500 mark.
Speaking of the Tet Offensive and war and those lost in battle, this is Memorial Day Weekend. My dad, who has since passed away five years ago, was part of a tank crew in the Korean War. I want to personally thank those who sacrificed their lives on my behalf for the freedoms that I enjoy. Thank you for your courage and dedication and hard work and sacrifice. This weekend, I honor your memory by remembering you in my prayers. I salute you and the men and women who have served and those that continue to serve to protect this nation and the principles of freedom.
